Ann Arbor Transportation Plan
A bustling city of almost 115,000 residents with 30,000 in-commuters daily, Ann Arbor is exploring expanded transit offerings coordinated with well-connected non-motorized facilities. The city of Ann Arbor retained the team of PB and LSL Planning to complete an update of the City's transportation plan. Ann Arbor is a highly walkable city, which integrates all modes of transportation in a comprehensive network. The plan recommendations also encourage directing transportation investment to discourage individual automobile trips, reducing the city's carbon footprint.

The plan's focus is on maximizing the usefulness of existing infrastructure while providing a more robust multi-modal transportation system. Recommendations includ transit-oriented overlay zoning districts to support increased transit service through compacy, walkable design, access management along major corridors, and transportation impact standards that consider non-motorized traffic and mode-shift in projects with transit-oriented design.

Public involvement included an advisory committee comprised of representatives from community groups, government agencies, private foundations, and institutional stakeholders, public workshops to gain public input and support, and informational website postings and newsletters to provide frequent updates and information. Coordination between the local MPO, the City, and the University of Michigan is a critical component of the plan to ensure successful implementation.
