Wixom VCA District
The City of Wixom has a highly desirable location within
the Detroit Metropolitan area that lacked a pedestrian
oriented downtown with traditional downtown elements such
as civic spaces and retail storefronts.

In an effort
to create a center of activity for Wixom residents, the
City established the Village Center Area (VCA). The VCA
was envisioned as a node where institutional, retail
and residential uses would be located in close proximity
to
each other promoting pedestrian activity and a downtown
lifestyle.

LSL, as a part of a multi-disciplined team, developed
a set of Design Guidelines to provide the city,
design professionals and members of the business community
with a comprehensive set of principles so new projects
and redevelopment of existing sites were planned and
constructed according to the original VCA vision. During
the development
of these guidelines LSL acknowledged that individual
site design and responsiveness to a site’s context
play an important role in creating well planned spaces.
The
guidelines have already been implemented in several
projects and the VCA Design Guidelines will continue to
establish the foundation for future development within
the VCA. |
