Steuben County Zoning Regulations

Steuben County, Indiana is referred to as "the county of 101 lakes." This mostly rural county, doted with small towns and numerous lakes, lies just 45 minutes north of Fort Wayne. It's many lakes have long been lined with weekend cottages. However, growth in the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Area has made Steuben County a desirable place for residents willing to commute to a home on a lake or live in a quiet small town setting.

The County's Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances were outdated, poorly organized and filled with inconsistencies due to piecemeal amendements over many years. This resulted in an ordinance full of conflicting requirements and regulations that did not respond to current development pressures.

LSL began the process with a comprehensive reorganization of the current ordinances. This arrainged current regulations into a more easy to understand format. Once the organization was established, we were able to update the standards and procedures to provide the County with an effective, user-friendly ordinance.
