LSL transportation specialists understand the important relationship of transportation to land use and advocate that land use patterns and design can be part of the solution. Our projects also promote techniques to effectively manage the transportation system such as access management and innovative roadway design.
Our approach is toward a “complete" system that emphasizes harmony of streets with their surroundings, while meeting the mobility needs of all users — motorists, commerce, pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and people of all ages and abilities.
Our transportation projects range from broader regional systems planning to small area planning:
- Thoroughfare plans that coordinate land use/transportation planning
- Access management to maximize street capacity and reduce crash potential
- Design standards for "complete" and "green" streets that serve all users and fit the context of the area
- Non-motorized plans, for a system of pathways, sidewalks, bike lanes, and support facilities
- Transit-oriented development (TOD) and long-range transit service planning
- Ordinances, such as Transportation impact ordinances and design codes
- NEPA/EIS studies of alternatives and impacts
- Safe Routes to School programs and implementation
- Parking and Circulation studies for downtowns and campus settings
