Matanuska-Susitna Borough Zoning Ordinance

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is over 24,000 square miles in area - the size of West Virginia. It is striking and unique, with land uses ranging from urban to the wilderness areas of Denali. Parts have been experiencing increased development pressure from the expanding Anchorage metro area, transforming the once rural communities of Palmer and Wasilla. The resulting suburbanization has created congested roads, residential subdivisions, and big-box development, all which potentially threaten a rustic lifestyle.
LSL worked with the Borough to develop a performance-based zoning ordinance that addresses a full range of land use issues. They include managing suburban development, preserving the rural lifestyle of the many outlying communities and protecting the Boroughs unique natural resources and visual character.
