A vibrant inner ring suburb with little vacant land, Grandville crafted a master plan that focused on key subareas and their development character. The plan concluded that the protection and long-term health of the downtown and surrounding 1920s bungalow neighborhoods were essential and could best be achieved by adopting a form-based code. The balance of the city, however, was well suited to more traditional, though reorganized and updated, zoning regulations.
Using LSL's iZone™ Interactive Zoning, an enhanced electronic format, Grandville was able to create a fully interactive document marrying the zoning ordinance with web pages. Its in-text links, icons, and buttons function similarly to an internet browser, alowing mouse-click navigation to definitions and terms, section references, and graphics. The use of color-coded district pages, use tables, and illustrations further enhanced the readability an useability of the ordinance.
